Ionization Smoke Detector

The sensing part of the Ionization Smoke Detector consist of two chambers:

• an open outer chamber

• a semi sealed reference internal chamber

A low activity radioactivity foil of Americium 241 is mounted in the reference chamber which enables current to flow between inner and outer chambers. As smoke enters the detector, it causes a reduction in the current flow in the outer chamber resulting in the increase in voltage measured at the junction between the chambers. This increase in the voltage is measured by the electronic circuitry which triggers the detector into the alarm state at the preset threshold. A red LED lights up symbolizing changeover in the alarm state. An Integrating Ionization Detector suitable in transient level of smoky areas is also available.
